Something's Happening!

After a bit of silence in the blogging department recently there is some news for you all!
We have been offered a disused cafe for a community venue.
It needs some refurbishing work doing, and we will have to find some pennies from nice friendly funding people, but hopefully around March/April 2012 we could be open for -
Food prep classes
Bread making classes
Distribution of the food4maccdirect's produce
Also as a venue for other community groups etc........

Our first local food meal!

We have joined forces with The Snowgoose on Sunderland Street to bring together a local food meal, of soup, pumpkin bread, herb scones, chutney and cheese - get down quick and see if there is any left!

Using Walk Mill flour (from near Chester), free range eggs from Medhurst Green farm Congleton, chutney from local pears, and a trio of local cheshire cheeses - Burts Blue, Mrs Bourne's mature Cheshire, and Golden Brie!

Even more flyers

Been at the very busy local Treacle Market in Macc handing out freshly pressed apple juice made from apple and pear trees in and around Macclefield - Most of which would have gone to waste otherwise!
At the same time I was handing out more flyers about the  food hub idea, people still think it's a good one!

Friday 7 October 2011

First day out with the flyers!

Today we were in Macclesfield town centre handing out freshly pressed Macc apple juice(using local apples picked from trees in and around Macc) and foodie samples made from local flour, homegrown veg and local veg from Cuttlefords.

The feedback was really positive about having a food hub in Macclesfield - hurray!
No we are not handing out wine and chocolates it's food samples and apple juice - honestly!
A happy customer I'd say and all for free!

Food 4 Thought

A community enterprise in Macclesfield

Our Vision

·  Cafe = Serving locally sourced seasonal food

·  Bakery = Producing real bread and homemade cakes

         · Food = Retail of high quality produce from trusted local suppliers

· Learning = Education  and  training about food and sustainability issues

We’re so lucky in Macclesfield to be surrounded by beautiful countryside, but what happens to the crops and animals that we see growing in the fields?  We are a group who are passionate about getting the local harvest onto local plates and helping Maxonians feel reconnected with the land and the food it produces.

We want to make it easy for YOU to get away from the bland food offered by supermarkets and see what Cheshire and surrounding areas can offer. We will not compromise on quality and will ensure that prices are fair to both consumers and producers.

Please get in touch with your ideas and help us turn our vision into reality

Ideas to get the ball rolling!

· Soup n Roll— Rocking in your town!

· Pop-up Bakery—Popping up around Macc!

Mini Foodfest—local food in a local venue!

Blog  us what you think !

Food 4 Thought

This blog has been created to share a journey, a journey to create a vision, a vision to open a Local Cafe/ Bakery/ Learning hub in Macclesfield.
Using locally sourced ingredients and produce to sell in the cafe, the retail of high quality produce from local suppliers,. make bread from local flour in the bakery and an information hub to pass on skills such as Bread Making, jam making, how to grow your own veg and other classes that people show interest in.
Keeping people in touch with their food, knowing who the producers are, and selling a product that is value for money and a fair price to the producer.
Help us realise this concept, let us know what you think, and please join us in any way you can, whether that is with inspiring ideas, hands on, or just following our progress along the way.
To continue to get updates on progress please sign up via this blog site.

It is not 'our hub' it is open to everyone as a welcoming and social space, for tasting and buying good quality local food made by people who are passionate.

Let the journey begin.................................
